Rebuilding of the store IKEA – S.P. 208 – Carugate (MI) – Italy

Final and detailed design of structural works and works supervision

Client: IKEA Italia Retail S.r.l.
Building volume: 50.000 m3
Building surface: 11.000 m2
Structural works value: 3.000.000,00 €
Design period: 2009
Construction period: 2010÷2011

The works consist of: expansion of the Show Room and the restaurant, new Glass House, new loading bays and compactors platform, new entrance canopy with lift groups.
The extension, adjacent to the existing store and structurally separated from this by appropriate joints, is made of precast reinforced concrete structure consisting of columns, L-shaped and T-shaped beams and prestressed slabs
The Glass House area, also built with precast reinforced concrete structure, is made up of a single-storey building with a roof garden.
Particular attention was paid to the design of the foundations of the columns adjacent to the existing building, which for reasons of interference with the existing underground structures are set on micropiles instead of the spread footings used for the other alignments of the supporting structure.
The technical area expansion, loading bays and compactors platforms, is made of cast in place reinforced concrete structures and completed by steel structures to support the canopy and the facade insulating panels.
The entrance area on the ground floor, with the exception of the elevator shafts, is made of steel structures and glass walls and a steel roof that is also adequately insulated with sandwich panels.
All stairs related to emergency exits are in steel structure.
