Office building in Corso di Porta Vittoria, 27 – Milano (MI) – Italy
Assessment of seismic vulnerability and preliminary, final and executive design of seismic retrofitting of structural works.
Client: Autorità di Regolazione per Energia, Reti e Ambiente A.R.E.R.A.
Building surface: 10.200 m²
Amount of structures: 6.670.000 €
Design period: 2019÷2023
The building complex, built in the 1960s, occupies an area of about 10,200 square meters, is composed of a main body overlooking the Corso di Porta Vittoria and two blocks – east and west – of nine floors of which seven are above ground and two underground divided by structural joints.
On the occasion of a complete refurbishment of the building, the structure was subjected to a seismic vulnerability analysis and, considering the results obtained, it was decided, in agreement with the Client, to proceed with an improvement of its structural behavior aimed at giving it a capacity of not less than 60% of that of a new building.
The strengthening interventions consist of jacketing some columns with the addition of reinforcing bars to improve the axial-bending combined resistance, adding reinforcement bars to the extrados of some beams, bending and shear strengthening of the concrete walls with application of carbon fiber fabrics.
It is also foreseen the closure of the structural joints between the main body and the two lateral bloks, as well as the creation of a larger structural joint towards another building located along the north side to avoid hammering between the structures.
