The construction of the building dates back to 1939. Alterations followed with consequent changes to the structures. To view the foundation system it was necessary to proceed with the removal of the soil covering it.After careful study of the existing building, with complex and irregular geometry, of eight floors above ground and two basements of which the second only partial, it is structural design of his seismic retrofitting with the prediction of a three-story elevation, then actually designed in metal carpentry. Furthermore, it was designed the expansion of the second basement, and an additional third basement, opting for a submasonry technique by excavating “well” like portions. The project envisaged vertical and horizontal provisional works, their sequence, and it was gradually and locally calibrated according to the real conditions of the existing foundations surfaced following the excavations. The new foundation stalls, placed just above the current aquifer, is planned with the technique of the “white tank”.The existing building, 39.80 meters high, was then developed to the new height of 58.00 meters with an increase of 46%.
