The new hospital consists of a main building with a basement and sixteen floors above ground with a total surface area of approximately 120,000 square meters, a secondary building with a basement and 4 floors above ground, various buildings for plants of 1 ÷ 2 floors above ground and a single-storey underground car park.

The total area of the intervention is approximately 155,000 square meters.

As far as the main building is concerned, it has a total height of about 90 m above ground and about 8 m under the ground the ground, including the foundation, dimensions in plan of the floors up to the fourth of about 49 x 185 m and of about 38 x 175 m for subsequent floors.

The structures are entirely in cast in situ reinforced concrete  with solid slabs 30 or 35 cm thick depending on the project loads: only for the roof deck and for the entrance area beams with 22 or 24 cm thick slabs are provided.

The vertical structural elements consist of walls with variable thickness from 30 cm to 70 cm intended to house the stair-lift cores and columns arranged with a regular mesh of 8.0 x 8.5 m.

The structural typology is configured as “flat slab-shear wall”, that is slabs on columns with shear walls designed to absorb horizontal actions.

The main building is divided into three parts by structural joints which minimize the effects of temperature changes and shrinkage of the concrete.

In order to obtain a homogeneous and monolithic behavior of the building in the event of an earthquake, shear connectors and shock transmitters units are arranged along the joints.

The foundation is a mat, 3.5 m thick, on poles with a diameter of 100 cm and a length of 20 m with the function of reducing settlements.
