New auditorium – Oyala – Equatorial Guinea

Detailed design of structural works

Client: Piccini Group
Building volume: 51.500 m3
Building surface: 5.400 m2
Design period: 2009÷2010

The main room of the auditorium consists of a spherical sector dome with an approximate diameter of 53 m and a height of 19 m set on a square basement with sides of 70 m, where the technical and service rooms and various meeting rooms are located.
The supporting structure of the dome is made of steel ribs covered with precast r.c. slabs that collaborate to the stabilization of the steel structure through mechanical connectors and sealing of joints with cast in situ concrete.
The structures of the basement are all in reinforced concrete and consist of walls and columns cast in place while the beams and slabs are precast and prestressed.
The interface between the steel structure of the dome and the basement is constituted by a sturdy annular beam in reinforced concrete cast in place.
